Perception towards Marriages

Wow, do you still remember how our grandparents use to go on and on about their strenuous lifestyles and warped love lives? Regarding the latter, try recalling how we were told about their arranged marriages? Aren't you glad that it no longer is a culture which we practice here in singapore anymore?

There are some countries who still go about with such a tradition. The perception towards arranged marriages have been altered greatly with the influence of the modern western culture as time passes. No longer do we hear about how pitiful it is to be forced into a marriage as we now bask in the freedom of choice.

CBS however have taken a whole new perspective towards arranged marriages. They have decided to take a step into time and create a reality TV show which shows couples getting married to someone chosen by their loved ones or friends. Click HERE to read more.

I personally think that it is really just a harmless but entertaining and money making way to attract viewers. To the western viewers, this is only but harmless entertainment. They have categorized marriage differently as compared to their Asian counterparts. I wonder how people who practice such customs would react upon knowing such a reality TV show is going to be aired. I mean, these people are doing it because it has been done for centuries in their family line. Here comes these group of people that take such a custom and replace it with what they perceive. Seriously, interpreting whatever that is shown would hardly be close to how it would be like as compared to the real thing, i think. Perception is a very strong mindset thus, we need to know where to draw the line when it comes to portraying images.

But oh well, if its all in the name of money making harmless entertainment, I'll probably give this show a chance to see how close their way of production would be like to the actual stuff.

Communication defined

A letter of advice from Bush Twin's to the Obama Girls (:

This letter is taken off CNN. Indeed it shows how communication can occur at any age. It no longer is subjected to people who know each other but even to strangers. The Obama girls are new to the whole idea of living in the White House (WH) and the Bush Twins were being sweet enough to write them a letter giving them tips on how to live a life as the first children. I guess the Bush twins have been living in the WH for a good amount of time since their childhood all the way till their adolescent years. Nobody will know the best hiding places or have greater parties as compared to them.

Posting it for the world to see allowed people to avoid having the misconception as to how the girls grew up as the first children. People reading will learn that there isn't much hidden meaning to decode or underlining impressions that only the skeptical minds would configure. The Obama girls, who are still young growing children, probably would have been delighted to be shown the ropes as to how to act, talk and live.

The most important part of the letter to me would be about embracing their Dad, the POTUS. I think it was particularly heart warming as they touched about how the media would prey on their innocent minds and try to put in ideas about their Dad. It shows how the media provides information only for us to decide if its true. Regardless of it being the news or gossip pages. We have to be aware of what we read and how such information is conveyed. Via the different ways of communication, one must pick and choose selected information. I believe that is the way communication revolves in the current world. This is due to the massive amount of information conveyed through various communicative methods.

I hope the Obama girls would grow up well and strong in the WH (:

P.S: perez hilton has the whole entire letter on his webpage. click here to read.
